Installing the Armenian fonts for
Windows 95
- Create a folder called "Armenian" (or another name of
your choice) anywhere on your hard disk.
- Download "arasan.exe", saving it into the "Armenian"
folder.
- Double-click on "arasan.exe" (unless your browser
automatically extracted the files) and choose the "Armenian"
folder as the destination for the extraction. Click on "Unzip"
to extract.
- From the "Start" menu, go to "Settings/Control
Panel" and double-click on "Fonts". From the "File"
menu of the "Fonts" folder, choose "Install New Font",
and install the "Arasan" and "ArmFixed" fonts
from the "Armenian" folder.
- After you have finished installing the Arasan and ArmFixed fonts,
you will have to re-start your browser and enter the site again.

as the desired size, style, etc.
- Refer to the KDWin window to see the Armenian keyboard layout.

combination toggles between Eastern Armenian and U.S. keyboard
layouts.
- Numerals are accessed by holding down the Right-Alt key.
Using Arasan for
email messages If
you use Netscape Mail:
When you receive an email in Armenian,
go to General Preferences from the Options menu and choose ArmFixed*
as the Fixed Font in the "Fonts" tab. Now go back to your
inbox and click on the message in question to display it in
Armenian.
If you
want to type an email in Armenian, before opening the composition
window (by clicking on "To: Mail", "Re: Mail",
etc.) choose ArmFixed as the Fixed Font as described above.
When you are done reading or typing in
Armenian, you can revert the Fixed Font to the original
non-Armenian font. *
ArmFixed is provided as a temporary solution for using fixed width
fonts in Netscape's email module. Come back to this page in the near
future to download an improved version of our fixed width font.
If
you use Microsoft Internet Explorer:
When you receive an email in Armenian,
go to the Internet Mail window, choose Options from the Mail menu
and change the font to Arasan in the "Fonts" tab. Now go
back to your inbox and click on the message in question to display
it in Armenian.
If
you want to type an email in Armenian, before opening the
composition window (by clicking on "New Message", "Reply
to Author", etc.) choose Arasan as your email font as described
above.
When you are done reading or typing in
Armenian, you can revert the Fixed Font to the original
non-Armenian font. If
you use the AOL browser:
The AOL browser does not allow you to
change the font you use to type or read email. If your connection to
the Internet is with AOL, you can still use Netscape Navigator or
Microsoft Internet Explorer, in which case see the explanations
above. Otherwise you will have to type and read Armenian email using
one of the two following approaches.
1- You can
type your message in another application such as Microsoft Word
using the Arasan font and keyboard. You can then copy the text you
have typed, and paste it into the AOL email composition window. In
AOL you will see the message in English characters, but the
recipient will be able to read it well with Arasan. When you receive
an Armenian email, copy its text content and paste it in another
application such as Microsoft Word where you can read it with
Arasan.
2- Type your message using Arasan in
another application, and save it as a file. When you send your AOL
email, include the Armenian file as an attachment. |
Using attachments
Whether or not you type the contents of your email in Armenian, you
can include a file with Armenian content in it as an attachment. The
advantage of using an attachment is that applications, such as Microsoft
Word, which you can use to produce them will allow you to mix
non-Armenian and Armenian fonts, to format your text, and to include
images, tables, sounds, and so on. You just have to make sure that the
recipient of your email has the same application that you used to
produce the attachment, or another application which accepts the format
of the file which you attached.
Note:
When you send an email typed in Arasan or ArmFixed, you have to
make sure the recipient has the same font, or another Armenian font
based on the Papazian encoding. You can ask them to download Arasan
from these pages (http://www.narod.org/arasan.html).
AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED INSTALLING THE ARASAN FONT IT IS
RECOMENDED THAT YOU RE-START YOUR BROWSER AND ENTER THE SITE
AGAIN.
